Changing the Grid landscape in Europe
Abstract:
European grid infrastructures became mature enough to be used by
large scientific communities but they face two major challenges.
First, clouds are getting more and more popular providing another
large set of computing and data resources that might distract
scientists from the use of grids. Second, the user access to grids is
still not as easy as expected by end-user scientists. The talk shows
the results of two large European projects EDGI
(edgi-project.eu) and SCI-BUS (www.sci-bus.eu) that
can solve these problems and can provide a grid landscape that is
easily accessible by end-user scientists and at the same time
seamlessly involve many different kind of DCIs (Distributed Computing
Infrastructures) like grids, desktop grids, clouds, supercomputers and
local clusters.

Unique features of HP CloudSystem Matrix - a practician's perspective
Abstract:
The paradigm of cloud computing is widely known, and more and more
commonly used in any of its form. As any area being in early stage
it evolves quickly and still waits for formal definitions and
standards. The lecture will start with presenting observed market
trends and directions, listing in chronological way the past and
present of road way to the cloud, as well as some future
possibilities will be discussed. As HP plays significant role in
developing the marketplace, the vendor's approach to cloud computing
will be shown, focusing on IaaS layer. Then the majority of the
speech will be devoted to the architecture and unique features of
ready to use implementation of IaaS in the product, HP CloudSystem
Matrix with Intel processors. This topic will be extended by
listing a few real use cases, where the entities from various market
segments successfully utilize HP CloudSystem Matrix to offer
computing power in the service mode. On the end, the lecture will
discuss the evolution of computer systems architecture trying to
prove that cloud is a next stage of it. The presentation will be
concluded by question if we should just wait for cloud, or it's
better to built it now. The first option is rather easy to
implement using any available public cloud offerings, including
this provided by HP. In a case of second one, the presenter will
invite the listeners to HP Solution Discovery Center, where an idea
could be discussed in details, and any concept can be tested in real
environment.
