Hierarchical Mass Storage System

One of the aims of ACC CYFRONET AGH is to provide the scientific community with a means of storing and manipulating of very large datasets. All major computing and network devices at CYFRONET are connected to a central storage system with a capacity of 2.21 Petabytes. Another important element in this architecture is a data archiving system, which can store data in virtually unlimited near-line storage space. Data are stored automatically on several kinds of media, including hard disk drives and LTO magnetic tapes. The Centre also operates an enterprise class tape library HP ESL712e.

The Mass Storage System is used for:

• storing multimedia data for the purposes of telemedicine and e-learning,
• supporting international research projects,
• creating offsite backups for cooperating scientific and educational institutions.
