IA-64 Architecture for High Performance Computing

Abstract:

This talk will give an overview about the IA-64 architecture and its special features for High Performance Computing (HPC). The new 64-bit Intel Architecture (IA-64) is designed to provide the underlying architecture for the ever increasing demand for faster and better processing power across all systems used in modern HPC and e-Business solution stacks. With the first implementation of the IA-64 processor architecture, Intel Itanium(tm) processor based systems will deliver and extend the necessary performance and features for all high-performance application areas in the technical and scientific High Performance Computing workstation and server market segments. We will review the current status of IA-64 and Itanium(tm) processor based system designs for both the technical and business standard high-volume HPC market segment, as well as for high-end Supercomputer and highly parallel systems.
