Jeremiah Curtin's translations of the Trilogy of 1890-1893 have often been blamed for their bad style, often a result of his obsolete, word-for-word approach to translation. 

Four major effects can be observed in his translation:

• The three foreigners (Helena, Bohun, Azja) are still quite outstanding.

• The Polish cluster visible in Sienkiewicz is now less compact.

• This declustering is mainly owed to female characters, who now tend to group in the bottom left of the diagram.

• The language of Ogniem i mieczem, the first part of the Trilogy, stands apart that of the other novels.

Also, you can place your cursor over the diagram to see that the differentiation within the three trios is still least visible where all three characters are of the same nationality. It is now the final part of the Trilogy (marked in green) that presents the greatest differences between its main characters' idiolects.  

Let us now see what changes have been brought by a much later translation.
