Tadeusz Sozański: beyond work

tsmts.jpg

Welcome to the informal part of my personal website. The first picture I placed here soon after it was shot (May 2006) shows what I like most when I need to take a rest from my work. I'm not a climber; an ordinary hiker can also get to the rocky top of Goose Neck (Gęsia Szyja,1490m a.s.l.) to see the panorama of Tatra Mountains with White Water Valley (Dolina Białej Wody), Gerlach, Tatra's highest peak (2655m), and Rysy, Poland's highest point (2499m, the rightmost peak in the far background) where the Polish-Slovak border leaves the main ridge of High Tatra.

The closer I am to 60, the happier I am with still being able to reach high places in the mountains, like Icy Pass (2372m, Sedielko on Slovak maps) you can see on the picture taken in September 2009.

The previous pictures might suggest that I love to live on a lonely island. Actually, I enjoy being with my two Ladies Maria and Dominika. The history of my nuclear family began January 1, 1973 at St. Ann's church in Cracow. Every five years I and Maria invite family and friends to celebrate with us the anniversary of this event. Dominika (she designed the logo of my homepage) was born in 1977. That's how our triple (one MA, Maria, and two PhDs, all in sociology!) looked at Xmas 2009.

I must supplement my Internet self-presentation, now covering only work, leisure, and family, with a few words about me as a "political animal". The 30th birthday of "Solidarity" has inspired me to show you a document of the time when I - he who had so far lived in the work-family circle and kept his life out of the public sphere dominated by "them" (functionaries and supporters of the communist regime) - actively joined the social movement which was to change Poland. The picture is a photocopy of a notice I placed 24th September, 1980, at the door of room 49 at 52 Grodzka Street. The notice informs the faculty of the Institute of Sociology about the meeting at which I and 6 other persons were elected for the Founding Committee that was to organize the branch of the "Solidarity" trade union at the then Philosophical-Historical Department of the Jagiellonian University.
