Florianka

Bronislaw Rutkowski Hall

The Academy of Music has its own concert hall
-the Bronislaw Rutkowski Hall (ul. Basztowa 8), known as "Florianka".
Inherited in 1946 by the school from the St. Florian Cracow Insurance Company,
hence the popular name of the hall. The Hall is a historical monument,
dating back to the mid-l9th century.
In 1981 "Florianka" fell into disuse; in 1991, reconstruction work started.
It was completed in 1994.

The "Florianka" building houses:
- a concert hall for an audience of 180 (or more),
- the Senate hall,
- a vestibule (a coffee bar is planned there in the future),
- a gallery.

The Hall was opened on 15 October 1994 with the inauguration of the Academic Year
and the ceremony of confering the h.c. doctorate to Krzysztof Penderecki.
