    Thanks to the endeavours of composer and teacher
    Wladyslaw Zelenski, a Music Conservatory
    was opened in Cracow.

    Under the direction of Wladyslaw Zelenski, ideas were
    conceived for a new artistic conservatory and centre
    of excellence.

    Between the World Wars, the conservatory flourished
    under the direction of Wiktor Barabasz and his work
    was continued by Bolesław Wallek-Walewski.
    The period saw the range of studies broaden and the
    introduction of new classes and subjects.

    During the period of the Second World War,
    the activities of the school took place underground.

    Normal life of the school resumes.

    Ratification of a new StateHigher School of Music.
    The first Rector, the eminent pianist
    Prof. Zbigniew Drzewiecki, held this position
    until 1952.
    During his term of office, the standing of the
    Cracow school grew and the structure of the
    school as we know it today was consolidated

    Rectorate of Prof. Dr. Stefania Lobaczewska,
    distinguished music theorist.


    Rectorate of Prof. Bronislaw Rutkowski, virtuoso
    organist.


    A new Institution for Music Acoustics is created


    Rectorate of Eugenia Uminska, famous violinist.


    An annual organ festival: "Days of Organ Music"
    initiated jointly with the Cracow Philharmonic
    Society.

    Rectorate of Prof. Jan Hoffman, distinguished
    pianist.


    Creation of a postgraduate course in Music
    Editing.

    Rectorate of Prof. Jozef Chwedczuk, virtuoso
    organist.


    Collaboration in organizing the Jan Kiepura
    Memorial Competition.


    Rectorate of Prof. Krzysztof Penderecki, one of the
    most eminent contemporary Polish composers.

    Creation of an Electro-Acoustic Music Studio.


    Creation of a Research Group of Analysis and
    Interpretation of Music.


    Collaboration in "Young Musicians for a Young
    Town festival in Stalowa Wola

    Organizing of music workshops in Baranow Sandomierski.

    Renaming of the State Higher School of Music to
    the Music Academy.

    Beginning of regular participation in International
    Summer Schools in Burgthann near Nurnberg.

    The organization of the nationwide Wanda
    Landowska Memorial Harpsichord Competition.


    The First International Bach Academy.


    100th Anniversary of the Academy of Music in
    Cracow.


    The Second International Bach Academy.
    Initiation and participation in annual concerts
    featuring the most distinguished students and
    former students from the Academies of Music in
    Poland

    Creation of a Department for the Interpretation of
    Contemporary Music. Establishment of a cycle of
    yearly seminars "Courses in Early Music", led by
    specialists in l7th and l8th century music from the
    Conservatory in Amsterdam

    Organizing of an intercollegiate competition "The
    Piano Trios and Quartets of W.A. Mozart" on the
    occassion of the 200th anniversary of his death.
    Third Bach Academy within the framework of the
    European Culture Month in Cracow.

    The Fourth International Bach Academy,
    International Symposium "Krzysztof Penderecki -
    Music and its Reception.

    The first doctorat h.c. in history of the Academy -
    Prof. Krzysztof Penderecki.
